We had a busy day in Room 1! The children were welcomed in to a provocation involving canvas, vinyl and various drawing/writing utensils. They were encouraged to cut the vinyl into different shapes, peel & stick those shapes to the canvas, color the surrounding area and pull the vinyl pieces back up. This of course, would leave an area in the shape of their vinyl cutout. It was a fun way to introduce the concept of negative space, while continuing our discussions about shapes!
