In Room One, we have recently begun an exciting ice cream project inspired by the children’s interests and curiosity! The children have been creating ice cream cones and imaginative ice cream creations with Magna-Tiles while sharing their “favorite flavors” with their friends. Their ideas sparked many wonderful conversations about ice cream, including what we already know, what we wonder about, and what ingredients are needed to make it.
We became scientists and made our own ice cream, by mixing milk, sugar, and vanilla in a baggie, placing it inside a larger bag filled with ice, and shaking it until we were amazed to discover that our mixture had turned into ice cream!
We were also especially excited to welcome a Room One dad, who owns an ice cream truck, to our classroom. He shared his ice cream truck with us, answered our questions, and gave each child the opportunity to choose a flavor to enjoy.
Our ice cream project has provided so many opportunities for conversation, creativity, science, problem-solving, and learning together!
