Clay Critters

Today, we got into some kiln-fire clay as we focused on creating the insects our classrooms have been so into. It was fascinating to hear what they’ve learned & how it might translate to their sculptures.

Lulu: We saw a cicada outside & I pick it up & I took it to my classroom

Henry: I find this bee. He was black & yellow

Skylar: I want to make a cicada & a worm. There’s a fly & a caterpillar can walk. The cicada can crawl on the tree.

Phin: It’s drying out (clay)!

Margot: I’m going to make a beetle. You see, you just need a little bit of spots on it.

Phin: I’m making a butterfly so I’m rolling it out to make it flat like a butterfly (wings).
